Sermons

Welcome to our sermon archive.  The Word of God is so deep and rich that nobody can ever say "I know it all".  As modern day believers we often discover present day truths in the ancient scriptures.  This archive is a roadmap of what we have discovered so far, and is made available freely.

Each church service is recorded.  If a recording is available for a certain service, a "Play" link will be visible.  Click it to listen to the audio. Your browser might prompt you to install Microsoft's Silverlight plug-in.  Silverlight is a small download and installs within a few minutes.

Joy in believing
Posted by Morne Fourie on 29 March 2009

Preached by Apostle André Pelser on 29 March 2009 10am

In the Old Testament the curse of the law made it hard to enjoy the life of faith. Yet everything the Old Testament saints accomplished was done by faith in the living God. In the New Testament the curse of the law has been removed. When Jesus Christ died he became the curse for all who would believe in him. His death removed the curse and created an entry point into the Joy of having faith in God. The Holy Spirit gives us joy in believing. The life of faith in the New Covenant is a joy, not a burden or a curse.

There are different kinds of joy we experience in life, but the one that surpasses them all is the joy in believing.

The God of hope fills you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit! Romans 15:13

When you feel that all is lost and you feel tossed around like a small ship in the ocean, read Isaiah 54:11-14 and see how it will bring joy to your soul if you believe it is God speaking to you! That joy translates into joy for your children! That joy affects everyone around you for good!

The world wants you to be miserable and sad. Hollywood always equates rain with sadness. When someone is sad it rains! But read Isaiah 55 and find out that the prophet compares rain to the word of God that always produces a harvest – without fail! If we teach our children the word of God it shall produce a harvest in their lives!

If you want to know how to be a good church member read Hebrews 13:16,17 & 24. You can bring joy to those who have spiritual oversight over your life!

So you can experience joy in believing but also bring joy to those who believe!

The birth of Jesus brought good tidings of great joy – to all people! Not just to the Jews! The Jews were a chosen race to receive the oracles of God and for that we always honour them and pray for their salvation. But there is a new race: a peculiar people, a holy nation, a kingdom of priests: it is the church of the Lord Jesus Christ!

The birth of Jesus Christ expressed the glory of God in the earth. It brought peace and good will toward men. It was the fulfilment of the prophecies of Isaiah in chapters 7 and 9. Wise men came to worship the baby and brought him gifts! Wise men still do that today!

Various people had joy in believing in the Bible. Just shortly after he was born Simeon saw the baby and blessed God and said he could depart in peace, ‘for my eyes have seen your salvation!’ He could see by the eyes of faith that Jesus would become the Saviour of the world. Moses endured by constantly seeing him who was invisible. David set the Lord before him so that he would not sin. Joseph’s faith that he walked before God saved him from sin and helped him to endure unjust punishment until his faith was rewarded and he became the Prime Minister of Egypt who could help his family and his nation out of their distressful famine! He prophesied by faith that his people would leave Egypt and commanded them to take his old bones with them when they go! He saw 400 years ahead of time!

What gives us joy is the fact that we believe things that we cannot see! Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. We were not there when the earth was created, but we believe the worlds were framed by the word of God. That gives us joy in believing! If you want to go ahead and believe Darwin’s theories that we came from the apes – go ahead and believe it, but it will not give you any joy!

Simeon means ‘hearing’. Simeon heard about the birth of the Messiah and he believed it. Those who refuse to believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah cannot have joy in believing. They are waiting for something that has already come. They will constantly be disappointed because they cannot enter the rest of faith.

A young man went to sit next to an old Jewish gentleman at Muizenberg beach, the story goes, and told him about the story of Jesus and his redemptive work on the cross of Calvary. The old Jewish man began to cry, silently.

‘What’s the matter?’ the young man asked.
‘Why has no one ever told me about Jesus? I am 80 years old and this is the first time I have heard the good news about the Messiah!’

Simeon heard about Jesus and saw the future by faith. He embraced it and had joy in believing. Hebrews 11;13

Mary sang her magnificat after she received the Angel Gabriel’s message that she was chosen to give birth to the Saviour of the world! ‘My soul magnifies the Lord for he has seen the lowly state of his handmaiden!’

Joseph believed the dream in which the angel told him to marry Mary in spite of the fact that she was pregnant because that seed was the seed of God. He had to overcome all his doubts and fears of being mocked, and he had joy in believing!

Anna a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Asher was only married for 7 years when her husband passed away. She could have been the most bitter woman always feeling sorry for herself and going through life hating God for what happened to her – but instead she had joy in believing! Anna means ‘grace’ and Phanuel means ‘face of God’. Asher means ‘happy’! Her father’s name indicated that he sought the face of God for abundance of grace! He came from a happy tribe!

If you have joy in believing you can have a happy family! You can bring joy wherever you go!

At school I was mocked because I always smiled and seemed happy. My nickname was ‘Smiley’. When I worked for a finance company in Johannesburg the secretary would greet me on Monday mornings and say, ‘what do you have to smile about?’

‘Jesus saved my soul and made me whole – that’s why I am smiling!’

I printed a little tract with one of Aje’s earliest drawings on the cover that read, ‘Smile, Jesus loves you!’ We distributed thousands of them free of charge.

Anna decided to dedicate her life to the church. She never left the temple day and night and she lived a life of fasting and prayer waiting for the promised Messiah. When she saw the baby Jesus she gave thanks to the Lord for seeing the redemption of the world! She had joy in believing!

What we as believers in Jesus ought to learn is to have joy in believing and not merely wait for the manifestation of what we are believing for! This is the difference between believers and unbelievers: by the power of the Holy Ghost we can have joy and peace in believing – before we actually see the manifestation! That is what makes us different: we rejoice about something no one else can see! We do not walk by sight, but by faith! Our joy is based on the fact that we believe in an invisible God and that we have confidence in Him.

Faith is not a curse – it is a blessing! It is an honour to believe in Jesus! It brings joy to my soul and no one can take it away from me! His word is the source of my joy – faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Our Heavenly Father wants us to be happy – in spite of the circumstance we have to face, in spite of what is happening in the world.

Paul & Silas were stripped naked, beaten with sticks and bound in stocks and chains in the inner prison for preaching the Gospel and setting a young girl free from a fortune telling spirit. But instead of feeling miserable and sorry for them self, they began to sing praises to God at midnight and God became so happy that he sent an earthquake to shake off all the chains and all the prisoners were free! Everyone who heard them sing experienced the same joy they had! It was the joy in believing that set them free! And then the prison warden who wanted to commit suicide became their first convert and a church was planted in Philippi! Acts 16

When Jesus ascended up on high to be seated at the right hand of God, the Father sent the Holy Spirit to be with us who believe and now we have continual joy in believing – by the power of the Holy Ghost!

Now we can say with the prophet, ‘the joy of the Lord is our strength!’

When I think of the goodness of Jesus

When I think of what He has done for me

My very soul cries out, ‘Hallelujah!’

I thank God for saving me!

The joy in believing starts when you experience the joy of salvation. It is by grace through faith that we are saved, not by good works, otherwise we would boast about it, but it is the gift of God to all who believe!

The Holy Spirit – our ever-present Help
Posted by Morne Fourie on 22 March 2009

Preached by Apostle André Pelser on 22 March 2009 10am

How would you like to have someone to help you for the rest of your life.  Someone  who is always there, who knows everything, and can do anything. What an offer!

Human beings constantly need help.  How often do we hear people ask for help on a daily basis.  People knock on doors, beg in the streets, sell in parking lots.  Some are seen on the news, affected by war, floods, heat waves and cyclones.

Jesus always knew that we would need help.  We need help just to survive, and we need help to do His work.  That's why He sent us His Helper.

In John 14 Jesus informs His disciples that He would be going away, promises to send them another Helper, the Holy Spirit. Why did He say "another" Helper?  Because Jesus was the first Helper.  Everywhere Jesus went, He preached, taught the Word and healed people.

Jesus would not have been able to help us all, because He was human and could only be in one place at a time. If Leigh needed help in Durbanville, Cobus had to wait a few hours, because he lived in Table View.  And what about Simba in Zimbabwe?  Jesus knew that He was not the ultimate Helper, because His help was geographically limited.  That's why He said, "It is better that I go away".

But one thing His life on earth demonstrated was His reliance on the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is omnipresent (everywhere at the same time), omnipotent (almighty) and omniscience (He knows everything).  What a Helper!

Psalm 46:1-11  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. A Song For Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.  (2)  Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;  (3)  Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah  (4)  There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.  (5)  God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.  (6)  The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.  (7)  The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah  (8)  Come, behold the works of the LORD, Who has made desolations in the earth.  (9)  He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire.  (10)  Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!  (11)  The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

The Holy Spirit is omnipresent, and always with us.  He is always in the present, always in the “now”.  We don’t have to fear.  He is a Comrade and a Friend.

One of the most important functions in the church is helpers.  Helpers are just as important as apostles.  Helpers see what needs to be done without waiting for the command.  Do you know how much help you need to plant a church, publish media, get on TV, etc.

So we have a Helper who is always present, who can do everything.

Our problem is: We don’t ask.  We need to know what we want.  The Holy Spirit does not just act by Himself.  Jesus did not act without asking “What can I do for you”.  He asked the blind man, “What can I do for you”.  The blind man could have had a very painful ulcer and answered "Heal my stomach".  But he ask for eyesight and Jesus miraculously healed him.

What is your problem?  If you don’t know what it is, how will you ask for help.  You are looking for  an answer, but you don't know what the question is.  The question is the key to the answer.  It unlocks the answer.  Your problem is the key toyour solution.  If you know what your problem is, you know what to ask the Holy Spirit.

God wants you to voice what you want.  Once I asked someone “What can I get you”, and he said “Anything”.  I went out and bought him anything, and he replied, “That’s not what I wanted”.  Don’t waste God’s time.

Prayer helps you to let things surface in your mind.  You must be clear about what you want.  The reason we don’t want to pray, is that we don’t want clarity on our problems.  We prefer to wander in our mist of problems, rather than discovering the full-blown issues.

I once wrote down 18 problems in my life.  Then I prayed through everything and found scripture for them.  Then I drew 2 lines through them, cancelled them on paper and threw them in the dustbin. Everytime they came back, I said "Wrong address.  Given to God."

Now I do it very quickly.  Train yourself to get in step with God, deal with problems and hand it to God.  Submit to God and resist the devil.  Then he will flee from you.

How to receive from God

I want to share 5 keys on receiving from God, based on the acronym ARMED.

A
Ask

Ask of God and agree with His Word.  If you request is based on the Word, how can He refuse?  When you ask as a family, make sure you agree.  There needs to be unity.

RRely
Rely on God.  Put your trust in Him and not in your own understanding.  Acknowledge Him in all your ways.
M
Meekness
Phil 2 describes how Jesus laid down everything.  James 1 says, "Receive the ingrafted Word through meekness."  Meekness is power under control.  Humility plays a great part.
E
Excellence
Daniel had a spirit of excellence.  Human nature wants to do the least while getting the most rewards.  Don't go through life like that.  Choose one thing in life and excel in it.  God doesn’t do something halfway.  He made the earth and made it well.  He said “It is good”.
D
Desire
There’s no such thing as “I don’t know”.  Make up your mind what you want in life.  Desire it.  Ask for it and receive it.  God does not respond to empty desires.  Jeusu promised, "Whatever you desire when you pray, you shall have it".  While you’re praying, He drops a desire in your heart that He wants to fulfill.  Follow through and ask for it.

We don’t fail when we rely on the Holy Spirit.  We fail when we rely on ourselves.  Ask “give me strength”.

The doctors once tested Lance Armstrong while exercising.  When he said he cannot go further, they asked him to continue.  In the end they calculated that he had a reserve of 37%.  The Holy Spirit is our reserve.  When our strength is depleted, His strength kicks in (if we ask).

Jesus' High Priestly Prayer
Posted by Morne Fourie on 15 March 2009

Today I want to highlight 3 areas in Jesus' High Priestly prayer in John 17.

  • In verses 1-5 He prays for Himself.
  • From verses 6-19 He prays for His disciples.
  • And from verse 20 until the end He prays for His disciples' disciples

The Holy Spirit is our Helper.  He helps us to pray.  Sometimes prayer is a very lonely occupation, but we have learnt to pray with an open Bible.  Read the Bible and respond to it in prayer.  Let it become an open conversation with God.

Jesus’ method of prayer was one of building the church.  First He prayed for Himself, then for His disciples and then for their disciples.

Joh 17:1-5  Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,  (2)  as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.  (3)  And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.  (4)  I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.  (5)  And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

The only thing I knew about “glory” was that God would not share it with anyone else.

Rom 8:29-30  For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.  (30)  Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Jesus prayed “Father, glorify me.”  Today I want to break that misconception.  God wants to glorify you and your children, and those you disciple.  The glory always outweighs the suffering.  But we say “No, it’s not like that in my life.”  That's because you don’t ask!

Pray it.  “God, glorify my husband, my wife, my children at school”.  We tend to talk so much about what’s wrong.  But ask God to glorify you, to glorify Harvester church, MBC, the Collins family, etc.

The devil wants to steal your faith.  We always feel that we’re at the shortest end of the stick.  But now start praying like Jesus.  He prayed, “Father glorify me.”  God doesn’t glorify anyone.  You have to be a son or daughter in His house.  God told Jesus at one time, “I have glorified you and I will do it again.”

You can only pray for others what you pray for yourself.  When you pray, “God glorify me”, you can also pray “God glorify my neighbour”.  It just breaks all covetousness.

When I worked in the corporate world, I walked past the man doing the photocopies.  And God told me, “Look at his shoes”.  It was worn through.  So God told me, “Buy him shoes”.  I took him to a shop where there was a big sale.  They laid out all their shoes before him, but he didn’t like any of them.

Then he took me to the shop of his choice and I had to buy him real expensive shoes.

Secondly, Jesus prayed for His disciples.  Disciples are people who listen to you.  I have a theory that the people Jesus called as disciples were people He knew, people He grew up with.  You don’t walk up to some stranger and say “Follow me!”  I’ve tried it.  I’ve knocked on doors saying, “Follow me”.  But they only slammed the doors in my face.  Nobody followed me.

Joh 17:6-19  "I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.  (7)  Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.  (8)  For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.  (9)  "I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.  (10)  And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.  (11)  Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.  (12)  While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.  (13)  But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.  (14)  I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.  (15)  I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.  (16)  They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.  (17)  Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.  (18)  As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.  (19)  And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

Jesus prayed that His disciples would keep the word that was taught.  The Psalmist asks, "How will a young man purify his ways?"  By keeping the word.  We are like sheep going astray.  Before we know it, we go astray.  But when you read the Bible and keep the Word, the Word keeps you.

Find time to read the Bible.  If you’re too busy to read the Bible, you’re too busy.  My dad only read the Bible for 10 minutes per day, but he did it every day.  He saw God as an army commander.  He received his instruction for the day and obeyed.  And he was successful in everything he did.  Do what you can and do it regularly.  If you keep the word, the word will keep you.

Pray for those who follow you: your house, your children.  Pray that they will keep the word.  Jesus sanctified Himself for the sake of His disciples.  We also ought to keep ourselves pure for the sake of our disciples.

Jesus came to a point where the world no longer upset Him.  And He prayed that His disciples would also reach that point.

Then thirdly, He prayed for His disciples’ disciples.  If they respond to the frequency of the message, then those are the ones to work with.  Many times you need to testify to many people, before you get a response.  Then work with those.

Joh 17:20-26  "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;  (21)  that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.  (22)  And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:  (23)  I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.  (24)  "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.  (25)  O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.  (26)  And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."

God wants to glorify you where you’re at, so that the world may know that God has sent Jesus to save it.

The thing that attracts people is real love.  The world does not understand it.  Dr Francois lost his legs in October 2008 and the doctors said it would take 2 years for him to get used to his prostheses.  But he is already back at work.  He testified that the prayers and support of the church helped them through.  Otherwise they would not have made it.

The joy and the freedom of the Spirit is very precious.  Sometimes I think about our church and I think “What can we accomplish?”

But we’ve reached nations for God.  We’ve trained hundreds of people through MBC over the past few years.  Together with relating churches, we’ve helped a church in Zimbabwe to buy land in the most difficult times.

Balaam was sent to curse Israel.  But when he got there, he could only bless them, because his eyes were opened.  May our eyes be opened to see how blessed we already are.

Moses chose the reproach of Israel above the glory of Egypt, because his eyes were opened.

Start seeing your wife and children in the light of God’s glory.  Rise up within yourself and realise that you’re a sent one where you are, to be a witness to those who are ready to hear what God has to say.

To summarize: Jesus prayed for Himself to be glorified.  Then He prayed for His disciples and their disciples to be glorified and to keep the word.

Living stones
Posted by Morne Fourie on 09 March 2009

Preached on Sunday, 8 March 2009 8am by Clyde Davids

I make delicious sandwiches for a living.  I sell it at businesses in my area.  I use fresh bread every day.  If I would start using yesterday's bread, my business would close down within no time.

Jesus asked the disciples “Who do you say I am”.  And Peter had the first revelation of who Christ was.  Do WE know who He is?  Having a revelation 10 years ago doesn't count.

We need a fresh revelation of who Christ is everyday.  The revelation of who Christ is, is found among us.

1Pe 2:1-12  Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,  (2)  as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,  (3)  if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.  (4)  Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious,  (5)  you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  (6)  Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHIEF CORNERSTONE, ELECT, PRECIOUS, AND HE WHO BELIEVES ON HIM WILL BY NO MEANS BE PUT TO SHAME."  (7)  Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE,"  (8)  and "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.  (9)  But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;  (10)  who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.  (11)  Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,  (12)  having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

We are those living stones and He is the Chief Cornerstone.  You cannot build on sand.  You need a foundation.  Christ is that Rock and Foundation.  And every foundation gets tested.

The Holy Spirit reminded me that He is my Provider.  Jesus is the Truth, the Way and the Life.  Greater works will we do.  In His time there were no make-up artists, truck drivers and IT consultants.  We are doing greater works.

How will a young man keep himself pure?  With the Word of God.  It is like gold being dug up.

The Bible is a dead book.  Only when we read it and Christ is revealed to us, the words come alive.  The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Apostle André has gone to over 50 countries.  What did he go and do?  He set the church in order.  The army that fights as one is bound to win.  The unity of the Body is of great importance.  We need to stand on the Rock: all of us.

It’s great to be in unity on a Sunday, but during the week we need to fight for one another.  Pray for one another.

The Sabbath day is not one certain day.  Every day is holy.  If you find Christ, you find rest.  Then every day is a Sabbath day. Have a Sabbath day every day.  Don’t worry so much anymore.  Have a fresh revelation of Christ and then you will have rest for that day.

God does not choose a wife for you.  You choose your own wife.  When I went looking for a wife, I started looking at the outside.  After all the relationships ended, I gave up.  Then I only made friends.  And my wife first became my friend, before we decided to get married.

As living stones, we don’t need to try so hard.  We can find rest in Christ.  The substance is found in Christ.

Col 2:16-17  So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,  (17)  which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

Everything we need is found in Him.  We don’t have to strive for anything else, except to find a fresh revelation of Christ.

John 1 – Christ is the Word who dwell among us.  We are Christ to the world today.

Christ is “open” every day.  We can come everyday and get to know Who He is for that day.  He’s building His church and the gates of hell will not prevail against Him.

For too long the church has been striving.  It’s time for us to say that Christ is the Son of the Living God, and find rest in Him.

We cannot changed ourselves (or our wifes or our children).  The only one who can change us is Christ.  God allows us to sharpen one another in the Body.  He’s coming back for a spotless bride.

Mat 16:24  Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

“Deny yourself” means “Stop striving in your own strength”

Mat 11:27-30  All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.  (28)  Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  (29)  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  (30)  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

We don’t realise what we have in Christ.  No one has a full revelation of Christ.  That’s why we need to get a fresh revelation of Christ daily.

When we find rest in Him, He will provide for us.  We only need Jesus, because He is everything to us.  All things will pass away, but the Word of God will stand.  The Word that is in you will stand.  The rest will fade away.

It’s in humility that Christ raises us up.  Apostle Paul was beaten and stoned.  But to him all things was counted as loss, except knowing Christ.

Godliness with contentment is great gain.

Christ as a Son over His own house
Posted by Aje Pelser on 01 March 2009

Hebrews Series: The Glory of the New Covenant

Topic 3:  Christ as a Son over His own house

By Apostle Aje Pelser, February 2009

Scripture: Heb 3:1  Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, Heb 3:2  who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. Heb 3:3  For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. Heb 3:4  For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. Heb 3:5  And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, Heb 3:6  but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

Here we see some characteristics of Sons in the New Covenant:

1.  “Holy Brethren”

As the Holy Spirit fashions the character of Christ in us, individually and collectively as we have fellowship in a church together, so we become “holy as God is Holy”. See also the ”Sanctification Process.”

2Partakers of a heavenly calling
Apostle Paul speaks about an upward call – Php 3:7  But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Php 3:8  Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ Php 3:9  and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; Php 3:10  that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, Php 3:11  if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Php 3:12  Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Php 3:13  Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, Php 3:14  I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.2Pe 1:10  Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 2Pe 1:11  for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

3Connected with the Apostle and High Priest of our Confession Jesus Christ

Jesus is the cornerstone of the Church, the Chief Apostle, the Sent Son from God! We confess that He is Lord, we confess our sins to Him and He is first in rank and authority. He is also able and just to forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

4Faithful

Another plus for Sons of God in the New Covenant is the Fruits of the Spirit which include faithfulness. Where we once lacked the ability to remain faithful through temptation and trials, we now have the help of the Holy Spirit in the matter!

5Following in footsteps of great men of faith

The key to understanding success of the faith heroes in the Bible is to realize that they were just normal human beings with a supernatural source. Elijah is described as a man with “like passions” in James’ Epistle. If you place men of faith on a pedestal for yourself, you will never do the “greater works” that Jesus speaks about.

6Honoring the Master Builder, co-labouring to build the church

We are His workmanship created for goo works in Christ.

7As we build God’s House He entrusts us with our own.

Understanding that we are under authority in His house, gives us delegated authority in our own homes. We only have authority as church leaders because we are under Hs authority, the Word of God being the final authority in the judgment of any matter. Observing the life of Christ and reading the New Covenant letters between church leaders and churches we begin to see how to become good stewards of His House represented through the Church in our local area. But every believer I given a piece o the kingdom to govern. Knowing you are part of His House releases you to have a house of your own, under submission to Him!

8We are His House in the New Covenant if we hold fast our confidence in Him, and rejoice in hope all the way to eternity!

Do not lose your confidence which has great reward.

Heb 10:35  Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. Heb 10:36  For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: Heb 10:37  "FOR YET A LITTLE WHILE, AND HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME AND WILL NOT TARRY. Heb 10:38  NOW THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; BUT IF ANYONE DRAWS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM."

Heb 10:39  But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
